Packaging and labeling requirements in Washington State are under review (again)!

washington state marijuana warning labels

It’s been five years since legalization passed in Washington State. If you had to guess, how many times have you ignored this label? (imgsrc:The Cannabis Alliance)

Lets take a look at the proposed rule changes to WAC 314-55-105 which will be presented March 21, 2018 in Olympia. First the relevant full-text links:

Packaging and Labeling Requirements (current)

Packaging and Labeling Requirements (proposed)

For a full history of WAC 314-55-105 see the Register Filings page for WAC 314-55-105

And finally, my submission to the WSLCB: WAC 314-55-105 2018

I don’t expect anyone to read all that (and time is running out!) so here’s my main complaints:

1.) They’re REMOVING THE REQUIREMENT for HARVEST DATE on RETAIL PRODUCTS

2.) PESTICIDE DISCLOSURES WON’T BE REQUIRED ON PACKAGING (ONLY ONLINE)

3.) Retailers won’t be required to have laboratory tests available in-store

If you find the harvest date or pesticide disclosures to be useful component of retail packaging, please email a comment to the Liquor and Cannabis Board. The email address for public comments on proposed rules is below. All it takes is a few words, for example, “As a cannabis consumer I find the harvest date to be useful.”
